1962 National Glenwood 99 - Snow White

Here's something you don't see every day! The legendary National "map" guitar — and not just any map: the Glenwood 99 was the top of the line of National/Valco's futuristic Res-O-Glas series, and the rarest and most luxurious electric National of this era. Built by Valco in Chicago from 1962 to 1965 only, and this is an early production example: the serial number T 71749 dates to late 1961 / early 1962, right when the model was introduced. Cool fact: Bob Dylan played a first-year Glenwood 99 of this same specification during his Rolling Thunder Revue.

The body is molded from National's famous Res-O-Glas (fiberglass) in Snow White, shaped like the map of America, and it has aged into a beautiful creamy patina with fine lacquer checking — exactly the look you want on these. It's loaded with two original Vista-Power pickups plus the hidden Silver-Sound bridge transducer, each with separate volume and tone controls: from sharp and cutting to woody, almost acoustic tones. Deluxe pearl inlays, matching "Gumby" headstock, Grover Rotomatic tuners.

The guitar is in beautiful condition for its age and all original: pickups, electronics and hardware are fully factory. The bridge plate was replaced at one point with a plate ordered directly from National in the US. Being fully honest, as always: the back of the neck shows signs of an old repair — done very well, a long time ago, and fully stable. It's part of the guitar's history.

Comes in its original shaped National hardshell case with red plush lining. The case has clearly lived a life, but with a body shape like this an original shaped case is worth its weight in gold.

A true piece of American guitar history — collectors know how rarely these come up.
